Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between sample and population standard deviation?
Population SD divides by n; sample SD divides by n−1 (Bessel’s correction) to give an unbiased estimate from a sample.
What is the median?
The middle value when the data is sorted. With an even count it is the average of the two middle values.
How are quartiles calculated?
Q1 and Q3 use linear interpolation between the sorted data points at the 25th and 75th percentiles.
Can there be more than one mode?
Yes — if several values tie for the highest frequency, all of them are listed. If every value is unique, the mode is “none”.
