How do I make strikethrough text online?

Why does my strikethrough disappear on some platforms?
Some platforms (LinkedIn, iMessage) sanitise combining characters out of usernames and posts. The text remains but the strike is removed — this is intentional anti-spoofing.
Does the output work in Discord, Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit?
Yes — all four render Unicode combining characters in posts, comments, bios, and usernames. Discord also has a native markdown strikethrough (~~text~~) for messages, but Unicode strikethrough is the only option for usernames and server nicknames.
How is this different from HTML <s> or markdown ~~strike~~?

Is there a character limit?
